PANELISTS

Darren Johnson is Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer - Listed Equities at Impax Asset Management and is a member of its Executive Committee. Darren is responsible for global operations, including Portfolio Services, Technology, Project Management and Client Onboarding. Darren joined Impax in 2007 and during his tenure, he has driven operational transformations, built teams, and pioneered the company's transition into cloud services to support rapid growth. In addition to his Impax responsibilities, Darren serves as a Non-Executive Director of Impax Asset Management Irish subsidiary and sits on the board of the Human Charity based in London. Darren Johnson is also a prominent advocate of Diversity and BAME issues across financial markets and acts as an ambassador for Investment 20/20. Prior to Impax, Darren was Head of Operations at Talisman Global Asset Management, a family office investing in Fund of Hedge Funds and Private Equity. Darren was responsible for designing and implementing accounting, operational, and performance procedures, including systems within the firm. He has also worked for RAB Capital, AXA IM, Mercers, and Legal & General in various senior investment, operational, and accounting positions.

Bimpe Nkontchou is founder and Managing Principal at W8 Advisory LLP, a wealth advisory practice and multi-family office (based in London) which is focused on African entrepreneurs and their families. She also owns a sister company W8 Wealth Limited (regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority in the UK) which provides regulated financial advisory and investment management services to African business families. Bimpe is a dually qualified lawyer, with over 30 years' collective experience in England and in Nigeria. She is a certified Trust & Estate Practitioner (TEP) and an accredited Family Business Advisor with a diploma in International Trust Management. She is also a member of the Chartered Institute of Securities & Investments (CISI) in the UK. She has recently launched a digital investment app called Wealth8 (www.wealth-8.com) to make investing in global financial markets accessible in a simple, affordable format. Bimpe has held various board positions in the past years, and currently sits as:

Michae Barrington-Hibbert is the founder and global managing partner of Barrington Hibbert Associates’ Financial Services Practice based in the London office. He also leads the Diversity and Inclusion Practice. Michael has an extensive global track record in primary and secondary banking and markets appointments, both on the sell and buy side. Client activity spans the developed markets of EMEA, North America, Asia and the Middle East. Michael is responsible for key client relationships for Barrington Hibbert Associates, operating at Board and Global management Committee level. Clients include Global Investment Banks, Insurance Companies, Asset Managers, Hedge Funds, Family Offices & Private Equity Firms. He is a leader in the field of diversity awareness and equality and is an active contributor to press and television media on executive recruitment practices and inclusivity. His tireless and on-going work as a mentor, in part through the Government backed REACH Role Model programme to raise the aspirations and achievements of young black men, has been recognised in the Powerlist, a comprehensive compendium of the most influential black people in Britain today. In 2012, Michael founded the Barrington Hibbert Associates Scholarship which is awarded annually to outstanding 18-21-year olds. In the same year, he established an education-through-sports charity based in South Africa, called Inspire Through Sports. Prior to founding Barrington Hibbert Associates, Michael spent four years with Odgers Berndtson, the UK’s pre-eminent executive search firm. He began his career with Morgan Stanley in New York.

MODERATOR

Sonia Gayle is an experienced Non-Executive Director and her background includes public, private and not-for-profit sectors. She is a chartered banker, MBA graduate and fellow of the International Compliance Association, and has chaired a number of committees as a specialist in governance, transformation, policy strategy and risk management. Sonia currently sits on the boards of Steel City Schools Partnership and Breast Cancer Now (as Risk & Governance Committee chair). In an executive career spanning over 35 years (including early roles with the Home Office and Virgin Media Group), Sonia held various senior roles in financial services including as a former-regulator (FSA), management consultant (Arthur Andersen and EY), marketing executive at AEGON insurance and banking director at Lloyds, Barclays and HSBC Europe. Recently, Sonia was appointed as a Commissioner for the Sheffield Race Equality Commission and in her spare time volunteers for the British Red Cross, and Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. She is also a mentor and presenter for Women on Boards UK on board governance.
